SmarTrip® is required for travel on Metrorail and is the best way to pay when riding Metrobus and regional buses around metropolitan Washington DC.
The quickest and easiest way to get SmarTrip® is by using Apple Wallet (iPhone or Apple Watch) or Google Wallet (Android), you can purchase a new SmarTrip, add value to it, and have it ready to use in less than a minute!
Plastic SmarTrip® cards are also available to order online, but please note:
- Your order will typically be shipped the next business day via USPS first class mail. Please anticipate at least 5 business days for order delivery. Pre-Sales will ship 4-6 weeks from date of purchase.

- SmarTrip® cards purchased while you are logged into your account will be registered to your online account to give you balance protection, unless you choose otherwise.
